Aperio was conceived in 2016 by cyber-security entrepreneurs who were looking to address the growing number of cyber-security attacks on critical infrastructure and industrial facilities. They came to the conclusion that the right approach was to begin by assuming the ‘worst case scenario’ - an intruder has gained access to the operational network and aims to cause severe or catastrophic damage.
Attacks involving physical damage to assets and attacks aiming to systematically destroy many devices, require the attackers to work unnoticed, and therefore include subtle ‘forging’ of data that is invisible to operators. It was these types of scenarios which was the background for founding Aperio.
From the outset Aperio's key objective was to develop an essential product that solves a real need and at the same time is easy to explain, deploy and use.
The initial product development road-map was aimed towards developing a solution that prevents large scale, destructive cyber attacks against critical infrastructures. Over time we found that by leveraging our access to operational data and through our algorithmic capabilities, we can also enhance the operator's state awareness and monitoring capabilities by detecting broken or faulty sensors - a daily problem in many plants that disrupts production and has already caused devastating damage and human casualties. By doing so, we not only provide resilience against severe cyber attacks, but also improve the day-to-day safety and productivity of the plant.
Today, Aperio is at the intersection of Data Quality and Data Security as we detect sensor data issues regardless of whether they are malicious or relating to failures or misconfigurations.
Our team is highly multidisciplinary consisting of people from five countries with diverse backgrounds in large and startup companies.
Our core engineering team has an average education level of MSc+ and includes physicists, software engineers, mathematicians and signal processing experts.
